The event, co-organised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/john-goodby\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor John Goodby<\/a> as part of an ongoing collaborative project with the composer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorksj.ac.uk\/our-staff\/staff-profiles\/david-lancaster.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Lancaster<\/a> (York St John University) was staged as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/latemusic.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">York Late Music<\/a> Lunchtime Concert Series at the Unitarian Chapel, St Saviourgate, York.<\/p>\n<p>It was preceded by an interview between composer Hayley Jenkins, John Goodby and David Lancaster, available online on Jenkins&#8217; podcast <em>Late Music In Conversation<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/late-music-york\/in-conversation-with-professor-john-goodby-and-composer-david-lancaster-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>. David and John discuss why so many artists are inspired by Thomas, some details about David&#8217;s approach to his own setting, and how the poems were selected by the other composers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uymp.co.uk\/news\/2023-08-03-harrison-and-lancaster-commemmorate-dylan-thomas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of York Music Press<\/a> will be publishing two of the settings, and you can find the setting by David Lancaster and Rhian Samuel online <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/899223509\/eba1e2af2d?share=copy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/899223523\/d728f6ff5f?share=copy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> respectively.<\/p>\n<p>John Goodby and David Lancaster will also be organising a second performance of the pieces in the first half of 2024. As a leading authority on Dylan Thomas and editor of Thomas\u2019 Collected Poems, John has been advising composers introducing the poems. A CD recording of all the new songs will be produced in 2024 and a new biography of Thomas by John will also follow.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/john-goodby\">John Goodby<\/a>\u00a0is Professor of Arts &amp; Culture at Sheffield Hallam University. Professor Goodby\u2019s research specialisms are Irish writing, Welsh poetry, and British \/ US poetry, especially modernist poetry.
