Lise Autogena and Joshua Portway

HavObservatoriet is a circular steel construction, 3 meters high and 7 meters in diameter. A circular LED screen surrounds the viewer with a visualisation of the current state of the ocean at changing positions in the seas around Denmark. The movement of the waves is a realistic representation of what you would see if you were drifting in the sea at this location.

Autogena and Portway have explored new ways of interpreting and visualising the dynamic movements of the ocean in collaboration with the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). Using ocean forecasting data, the artists have created an animated visualisation of the movements of the waves represented as millions of floating points that surround the viewer.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-12611" data-attachment-id="12611" data-permalink="https://blogs.shu.ac.uk/c3riimpact/havobservatoriet-launch/visualisering_havobservatorie/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/blogs.shu.ac.uk/c3riimpact/files/2023/11/Visualisering_HavObservatorie.jpeg?fit=1182%2C665&ssl=1" data-orig-size="1182,665" data-comments-opened="0" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Visualisering_HavObservatorie" data-image-description="<p>Visualising HavObservatoriet</p>
" data-image-caption="<p>Visualising the movement of the waves &#8211; HavObservatoriet.
