Anja Louis<\/a>, Professor of Transnational Popular Culture at Sheffield Hallam University, has recently had an article published in The Conversation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The article, \u2018World Cup kiss: feminist progress is always met with backlash, but Spain\u2019s #MeToo moment shows things are changing\u2019<\/a> <\/em>was published on 31st<\/sup> August 2023, and explores the backlash against Luis Rubiales after non-consensually kissing victorious Jenni Hermoso at the World Cup final. Jenni Hermoso is not only part of Spain’s championship side at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup but was awarded the Silver Ball, and is the all-time top scorer for both Barcelona and Spain.<\/p>\n

Louis explains:<\/p>\n

“Immediately hailed as Spain\u2019s #MeToo moment, it appears to mark a turning point. In a society where feminist progress has historically been met with backlash, it shows how far Spanish society has come to reject rancid machismo instantaneously.”<\/em><\/p>\n
