exhibition open until 23 April"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>SOLAR: walking at the speed of light<br \/>\nSIA Gallery, 153 Arundel Street, S1 2NU<br \/>\nWednesday 15 March &#8211; Sunday 23 April 2017<br \/>\nOpen daily (including weekends, except Easter Bank Holiday 14-18 April)<br \/>\nAdmission is free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www4.shu.ac.uk\/mediacentre\/walk-speed-light-new-mobile-app-sheffield\" target=\"_blank\">SOLAR <\/a>is a collaborative arts and technology project which maps the solar system across the city of Sheffield to the nearby Peak District through a series of specially commissioned artworks and a related walking app. An exhibition of the artworks will run from 15 March &#8211; 23 April 2017 at the SIA Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Six members of Walking Arts Research Group at Sheffield Hallam University were commissioned to produce new artworks in response to the eight planets of our solar system each of which they assigned to a location at a distance from the centre of Sheffield representing the relative orbit of the planet measured at a scale where the average walking speed represents the speed of light.<\/p>\n<p>The artists worked in collaboration with external organisations <a href=\"http:\/\/opusindependents.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Opus Independents<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EpiphanyVR\" target=\"_blank\">Epiphany VR<\/a> to create a free, interactive app that guides a walking trail beginning with the Sun in the Peace Gardens and ending with Neptune situated in Woodlands Valley close to Snake Pass and Ladybower Reservoir.<\/p>\n<p>The project is an extension of the research work of members of the &#8216;Media Arts Research Walking Group&#8217; at Sheffield Hallam University that provides a collaborative space for the investigation of cross practice creative production linked to a range of walking practices.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition includes artworks by:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/susannah-gent\" target=\"_blank\">Susannah Gent<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/michele-lazenby\" target=\"_blank\">Michele Lazenby<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/jeremy-lee\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Lee<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/mark-parkin\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Parkin<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/andrew-robinson\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Robinson<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/sonya-robinson\" target=\"_blank\">Sonya Robinson<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/annie-watson\" target=\"_blank\">Annie Watson<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www4.shu.ac.uk\/mediacentre\/walk-speed-light-new-mobile-app-sheffield\" target=\"_blank\">SOLAR <\/a>was a commission for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/catalyst\" target=\"_blank\">CATALYST Festival of Creativity<\/a>, Sheffield supported by the Art and Design Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The app is available by searching &#8216;Solar Sheffield&#8217;
