\"Workshop<\/a><\/p>\n

Workshopping Otherwise: Decolonisation, Alternative Realities, and the Design School<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

This talk will explore speculative workshopping as a world-building research method for assembling decolonised futures in the context of design education. Drawing upon a series of participatory workshops that explored decolonised futures for design education, this presentation will deconstruct the workshop process and reflect on how speculative workshops can be used as a research method to deal with problematic histories and propose hopeful futures.<\/p>\n

\"Workshop<\/a><\/p>\n

Through this discussion, we will explore the opportunities and challenges of speculative workshopping as a world-building research method, including its potential to create new narratives and possibilities that are grounded in diverse perspectives and ways of knowing. We will also reflect on how this method can be used to assemble decolonised futures for the design school, including the importance of engaging with local communities, amplifying alternative knowledge systems, and fostering collaborative and reciprocal relationships.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, this talk will think critically about the role of research methods in creating more equitable and sustainable futures for design education and beyond.<\/p>\n

Layla Gharib is a designer\/ thinker\/ researcher\/ educator and PhD(er) who\u2019s research focuses on the assembling of decolonised, caring futures for design education. Her research is founded upon collective, community driven, participatory approaches that work towards imagining alternative realities.<\/p>\n

Layla is a CCRI PhD Candidate based in the ADMRC\/Art & Design.<\/p>\n
