Becoming Symbiotic: Instituting across Ecologies and Situated Knowledge<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In this session Anna Santomauro will discuss her work as Curator at Arts Catalyst<\/a>, a visual arts organisation based in Sheffield that develops artist projects and public programmes enabling people in South Yorkshire and beyond to engage in creative experiences that increase ecological awareness, encourage positive social action and open up new ways of learning about the world around us.<\/p>\n

During the talk Anna will specifically focus on the two programmes: Emergent Ecologies<\/em> and Soil Futures<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Emergent Ecologies<\/em> is a series of experiments in developing human and non-human collaborations in different sites across South Yorkshire: from collecting stories from local and planetary wetlands that are under threat to repairing and re-shaping an urban garden at Sheffield Mind; from exploring materials histories of industrial & extractive sites in the Peak District to working with asylum seekers and refugees to make the city centre of Sheffield less hostile for migrants.<\/p>\n

Soil Futures<\/em> is a network and project initiated by Arts Catalyst in 2022 in collaboration with four organisations based across Palestine, South Italy and Indonesia. Grounded within the localities where each organisation is based, the programme creates an intercultural exchange between artists, ecologists, activists and soil caretakers to collectively mobilise existing and future knowledges of soil.<\/p>\n

Anna joined CCRI as Senior Research Fellow in September 2022, and her role aims at building bridges between SHU and Arts Catalyst. You can learn more about Anna and her role in our Researcher blog post: Introducing Anna Santomauro<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Anna<\/a><\/p>\n

Anna Santomauro<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Anna Santomauro (she \/ her) is curator and researcher in micropolitics and situated ecological practices. She joined Arts Catalyst in 2017, and was appointed Senior Research Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University in 2022.\u00a0Her role at Arts Catalyst involves developing and delivering artist projects and commissions.<\/p>\n

She is co-founder of Vessel in Bari (Southern Italy), a non-profit arts organisation dedicated to public programming in relation to contemporary social, political, and economic issues. Anna previously worked as ESP and Public Programmer at Eastside Projects (Birmingham), and in 2018 she was Curator in Residence at Grand Union (Birmingham). In 2013, she was one of the recipients of ICI\/Dedalus Research Award.<\/p>\n

She has lectured, given talks, tutored and led workshops in several institutions, including: CCS Bard College (NYC), Piet Zwart Institute (Rotterdam), Newcastle University, Salt Galata (Istanbul), University of Cambridge, La Casa Encendida (Madrid). She is a PhD candidate at the University of Wolverhampton.<\/p>\n
