{"id":11356,"date":"2022-07-01T10:41:38","date_gmt":"2022-07-01T09:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=11356"},"modified":"2022-12-19T12:03:15","modified_gmt":"2022-12-19T12:03:15","slug":"becky-shaw-odd-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/becky-shaw-odd-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Becky Shaw produces live research works for national educational psychologist and SENCO conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Between 2018-2021 Becky was lead artist and co-investigator on the AHRC funded project, <em>Odd: Feeling Different in the World of Education<\/em>. &#8216;Odd&#8217; involved working in close collaboration with one Manchester school in a team that included art research, educational research and visual anthropology, to explore children\u2019s experiences of not fitting in at school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite decades of educational interventions around inclusion and wellbeing, some children still do not find it easy to \u2018fit in\u2019 at school and the pressure to conform is overwhelming. \u2018Odd\u2019 uses the unique capacity of arts methods to erode simplistic and diagnostic tendencies to construct \u2018difference\u2019 vs normal: instead engaging with the affective and qualitative nature of children\u2019s encounters in the school environment. Their annual conferences offer a rare context for educational psychologists, school leaders and school special education co-ordinators to meet.
