{"id":11322,"date":"2022-11-16T17:19:57","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T17:19:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=11322"},"modified":"2022-11-16T17:19:57","modified_gmt":"2022-11-16T17:19:57","slug":"beyond-100-transforming-design-imagining-futures-with-lab4living-opened-in-hong-kong-on-11-november-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/beyond-100-transforming-design-imagining-futures-with-lab4living-opened-in-hong-kong-on-11-november-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Beyond 100: Transforming Design &amp; Imagining Futures with Lab4Living&#8217; opened in Hong Kong on 11 November 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Is it possible to create an equal world through design as we live longer, where we can all feel\u00a0<strong>secure\u00a0<\/strong>and lead\u00a0<b>healthier\u00a0<\/b>and more\u00a0<strong>fulfilling\u00a0<\/strong>lives?<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s exactly what&#8217;s being explored in a new exhibition at the Hong Kong Design Institute\u00a0this month, and we&#8217;re thrilled to\u00a0hear that projects from our very own research-led design team at\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/lab4living.org.uk\/\" href=\"https:\/\/lab4living.org.uk\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/lab4living.org.uk\/\">Lab4Living<\/a>\u00a0will take centre stage.<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8216;Beyond 100: Transforming Design &amp; Imagining Futures with Lab4Living&#8217; opened in Hong Kong on 11 November 2022.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Sheffield Hallam University spoke to the exhibition&#8217;s curator, <a title=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/michael-tan\" href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/michael-tan\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/michael-tan\">Dr Michael Tan<\/a>\u00a0from Lab4Living, to find out what&#8217;s on show&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>__________________________________________<\/p>\n<p><b>&#8216;More-than-human-centred&#8217; design<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re responding to the fact that, as human life expectancy increases, support for aging populations and the future of our societies have become pressing issues confronting many, especially designers.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition acknowledges the\u00a0interdependencies of\u00a0<i>human<\/i>\u00a0and non-<i>human<\/i>\u00a0factors in shaping our lives. It also shows how\u00a0design and art can\u00a0convey and address real-world\u00a0challenges. In particular, we look\u00a0at how\u00a0design can respond to changing demands around health,\u00a0wellbeing, and supporting human flourishing as we live longer.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;d like visitors to think about the role of civic responsibility as well as the curious, provocative and technical qualities of design in response to society&#8217;s changing needs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s on show<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The exhibits are drawn from our Lab4Living research projects. We&#8217;ve organised them into five themes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Creative Provocation<\/li>\n<li>Frugal Design and Sustainability<\/li>\n<li>Life Transitions<\/li>\n<li>Capturing and Expressing<\/li>\n<li>Data Design Research in Healthcare.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>___________________________________________<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;This exhibition shows how Lab4Living has utilised design to enhance quality of life in an increasingly extended life.
