We\u2019d like to invite you to\u00a0join us for a fascinating in-person screening, discussion, and Q&A with documentary filmmaker, graphic artist, and political activist Fahmi Reza on Wednesday 25 May in The Void, 12noon to 2.30pm.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fahmi Reza is a Malaysian documentary filmmaker, political graphic designer, and street artist. His work focuses on issues of colonialism, free speech, and media freedom. His street art in Malaysia, in particular his caricature depiction of the Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak caused internal controversy and led to him being charged under Malaysia\u2019s Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Reza\u2019s documentary\u00a0Sepuluh Tahun Sebelum Merdeka (Ten Years Before Independence)<\/i>\u00a0(2007) explores the legacy of British colonialism in Malaysia and the fight for independence on 20th October 1947.<\/p>\n

This event features a screening of\u00a0Sepuluh Tahun Sebelum Merdeka (Ten Years Before Independence)<\/i>\u00a0followed by a talk and Q&A with Reza that will cover his career and issues of media freedom and free speech in Malaysia and beyond.<\/p>\n
