A powerful short film\u00a0by\u00a0<\/b>Professor\u00a0Esther Johnson<\/a><\/b>\u00a0titled\u00a0a ROLE to PLAY<\/a><\/b>\u00a0will screen at\u00a0VIVID projects<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>in Birmingham for the\u00a0PUT PEOPLE FIRST<\/b><\/a>\u00a0programme that shares stories of contemporary workers struggles.<\/p>\n

a ROLE to PLAY<\/a><\/b>\u00a0(2019) was co-commissioned by\u00a0Animate Projects<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Junction Arts<\/b>\u00a0as part of the\u00a0WORK<\/a><\/b>\u00a0project. The film tells stories of the impact of economic changes in post-industrial Bolsover, a Derbyshire constituency where coal was once king, and features Bolsover\u00a0Freedom Community Project<\/b><\/a>\u00a0food bank users and volunteers, adult\u00a0reading group<\/a><\/b>\u00a0members, and former Bolsover MP (1970-2019)\u00a0Dennis Skinner<\/b>.<\/p>\n

a ROLE to PLAY<\/a><\/b>\u00a0will be accompanied by two 1980\u2019s campaign videos made by Birmingham\u2019s\u00a0Trade Union Resource Centre\u00a0(TURC)<\/b>:\u00a0PEOPLE BEFORE PROFIT\u00a0<\/b>(1988) and\u00a0PUT PEOPLE FIRST\u00a0<\/b>(1983).<\/p>\n
