In celebration of the co-operative movement and the direct connection that Professor<\/strong> Esther Johnson<\/a>‘s social history arts research SHIPS in the SKY<\/strong><\/a> has to the Co-op Society; Esther has produced a 44-page full-colour book published by The Modernist Society. The book brings together a selection of project donations associated with the former Hull Co-operative Society Central Premises, alongside an assortment of delightful CWS and Co-op ephemera through the ages.<\/p>\n

Esther has undertaken extensive research in the Co-op Archives in Manchester so linking to the launch of this publication, the Co-operative Archive<\/a> will undertake a @shipsinthesky63<\/a> instagram takeover for a week from Friday 26th November 2021.<\/p>\n

Esther Johnson<\/a>\u00a0works at the intersection of artist moving image and documentary. Her poetic portraits focus on marginal worlds, revealing resonant stories that may otherwico-ose remain hidden or ignored. Work has been exhibited internationally in 40 countries, co-opand has also featured on television and radio. In 2012 Johnson won the Philip Leverhulme Prize in Performing and Visual Arts for young scholars. She is a Professor of Film & Media Art at Sheffield Hallam University.
