Making things better – Snapshots of applied design research projects, methods, and intent<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

This talk discloses some recent and emerging strands of design research undertaken by the product focused teams at the Lab4Living supported by Expanding Excellence England (E3) and the Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) that Heath is currently involved with. A longstanding ambition of his has been how we better understand, develop, and apply our skills and knowledge to both explore and help resolve issues of wellbeing and sustainability, how we \u2018Make things better\u2019. This is considered both in terms of \u2018making\u2019 as our primary method of enquiry and literally, how product outcomes can positively impact on people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n

The discussion will include snapshots of method, project heritage, and how we identify opportunities through creative connections. Examples from the \u2018Jugaad<\/em>\u2019 Assistive Technology (India), Playponics and Future Bathrooms Projects will be given.<\/p>\n

Heath Reed<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Heath currently works as one of the Lead Researchers delivering the E3, Future Home and 100 Year Life Projects at the Lab4Living. He has a long career in creative practice, working in Design Consultancy since the 1980s and Design research since 2007. He specialises in 3D Design, is fascinated by its role and value as research, and in in areas that show promise to translate to real improvements in quality of life, sustainability and wellbeing.<\/p>\n
