Professor Virginia Heath was honoured to recently discover that\u00a0<\/b>the legendary Patti Smith, who has always been a profound inspiration, chose \u2018Pauper\u2019s Dough\u2019 by King Creosote from \u201cthe transcendent Documentary, From Scotland with Love\u201d, as a song she would like to cover.\u00a0 Patti received a thousand song suggestions from her Blog readers and two particularly struck her.<\/p>\n

Patti writes in her blog post \u2018Covers\u2019<\/a> –<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother suggested song was Pauper\u2019s Dough. I had never heard of it, nor the film it graces. I loved it immediately on first listen. Pauper\u2019s Dough was written by King Creosote, for the soundtrack he created for the transcendent documentary,\u00a0From Scotland with Love,<\/em>\u00a0by Virginia Heath. Here is a brief description:<\/p>\n

The film explores universal themes of love, loss, resistance, migration, work and play. Ordinary people, some long since dead, their names and identities largely forgotten, appear shimmering from the depth of the vaults to take a starring role. These silent individuals become composite characters, who emerge to tell us their stories\u2026..<\/em><\/p>\n

Below is the audio of the song which so captured me.\u00a0 I aim to try it one day, but only if I can do it justice.\u00a0 The lyrics read as a poem to the people, the salt of the earth.\u201d<\/p>\n
