Much literature has explored how physical places are reconfigured by people to support work activities, and also how impromptu workplaces are often “made” by workers on the move out of transitional environments. However, as the separation between work and non-work activities becomes less and less definite, people deal with aspects of leisure and/or private lives within work settings, and conversely work-related practices take place in private or leisure environments. Therefore practices surrounding place-making, that is to mean how people experience and act upon the physical environment and its experiential characteristics – need to be documented more holistically, also with an eye to designing adequate technological support for work and life within the physical world. These issues will be explored both through examples from existing literature and through empirical data collected by the presenter in the course of two multidisciplinary research projects studying work on the move.

1.00PM – 2.00PM
TUESDAY 10 NOVEMBER 2015
CANTOR 9223

See here for details of other seminars in the series.

All SHU staff and students are welcome to attend the C3RI Lunchtime Research Seminars.
