{"id":10030,"date":"2021-04-22T15:54:51","date_gmt":"2021-04-22T14:54:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=10030"},"modified":"2021-04-22T15:54:51","modified_gmt":"2021-04-22T14:54:51","slug":"lise-autogena-joins-panel-discussion-for-the-foghorns-lament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/lise-autogena-joins-panel-discussion-for-the-foghorns-lament\/","title":{"rendered":"Lise Autogena joins panel discussion for &#8216;The Foghorn&#8217;s Lament&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 26th May, The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rgs.org\/events\/summer-2021\/the-foghorn-s-lament-panel-discussion\/?fbclid=IwAR0Yd9LoZkE8z5qb-uhsS6CktJe6sYCm4agOf7Z4yxQqsU17q_2gEWGGMaU\">Royal Geographical Society<\/a> are hosting a panel discussion around Jennifer Lucy Allan\u2019s new book <em>The Foghorn\u2019s Lament: The Disappearing Music of the Coast. <\/em>Jennifer will read a short excerpt from her book before discussing the rise and fall of the foghorn and questions from the audience.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The speakers include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jennifer Lucy Allan<\/strong>\u00a0is a writer, journalist and broadcaster with a PhD in foghorns. She has been a journalist for over a decade, writing on underground and experimental music for publications including the\u00a0<em>Guardian<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Quietus<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>The<\/em>\u00a0<em>Wire<\/em>, and was previously\u00a0<em>The<\/em>\u00a0<em>Wire&#8217;s<\/em>\u00a0Online Editor. She is a presenter on BBC Radio 3&#8217;s Late Junction, and wrote and presented Life, Death and the Foghorn for BBC Radio 4. She also runs the archival record label Arc Light Editions. The Foghorn\u2019s Lament is her first book.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lise Autogena <\/strong>is an award-winning Danish-born artist who lives in the UK and is currently Professor of Cross-Disciplinary Art at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/lise-autogena\">Sheffield Hallam University<\/a>. She specialises in large scale performances and multimedia installations which she creates with fellow artist Joshua Portway. In 2013 they masterminded the Foghorn Requiem, an extraordinary and evocative musical work designed to commemorate the disappearance of the foghorn from Britain\u2019s coastal landscapes. It was composed by Orlando Gough and performed around Souter Lighthouse in Tyne &amp; Wear by three brass bands, more than 50 ships, and the foghorn itself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Olivia &#8216;Lilly&#8217; Edward<\/strong>\u00a0will guide the evening&#8217;s discussion. Olivia\u00a0is a nature journalist who worked\u00a0as Reviews Editor\/Staff Writer\/Digital Editor at\u00a0Geographical\u00a0magazine for more than six years, and continues to review for them on a regular basis.
