‘From Scotland With Love’: Professor Virginia Heath’s film still influencing Scottish heritage and culture

Professor Virginia Heath’s feature documentary film From Scotland With Love will be screened at the Edinburgh Filmhouse as part of a major National Museum of Scotland exhibition entitled Rip It Up: The Story of Scottish Pop, displaying the continuing influence of the film on Scottish heritage and culture. Rip It Up tells the story of Scottish pop music from the 1950s to the present day, exploring the musical culture of the nation from influential indie pioneers to global superstars. The Edinburgh Filmhouse is hosting a special season of films all scored by Scottish bands as part of the exhibition.

There will also be a screening with director Q&A at North Berwick’s Fringe By The Sea Festival in August. Fringe By The Sea is a ten-day festival featuring music, comedy, literature, film and politics, taking place from Friday 03 August to Sunday 12 August.

Made entirely of Scottish film archive, From Scotland With Love is a 75-minute film by award-winning Director and Sheffield Hallam University Professor of Film Virginia Heath with a transcendent score by Scottish musician and composer King Creosote. A journey into our collective past, the film explores universal themes of love, loss, resistance, migration, work and play. Ordinary people, some long since dead, their names and identities largely forgotten, appear shimmering from the depth of the vaults to take a starring role.

Professor Virginia Heath is a Professor of Film in the Art and Design Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University.
