cropped-cropped-cropped-interior-designAs you will be aware, following the recent staffing moves of teams in Adsetts, there is a longer-term aim to refurbish level 7 of Adsetts and return the office spaces downstairs to student space.  Adsetts level 7 provides the opportunity to develop an improved work environment for L3S staff by offering a range of alternative work and social spaces. Agile working also extends to colleagues who are based in other areas of Library & Student Support Services. The project is about reviewing working practices, processes and the tools and technology used to deliver an efficient service. The structure of the Directorate has changed, introducing roles and teams that work across L3S, and this project offers the chance to bring teams together in different ways in order to avoid silos developing. This project is ready to begin but relies on input from our staff to make sure that everyone’s requirements are taken into account.
The aim of the project is divided into three strands which are:
  • addressing a backlog of essential maintenance and engineering issues
  • taking the opportunity of building on this project while maintenance work is being carried out to improve the environment on Level 7 to consolidate staff
  • improving the student experience as a result of freeing up space on the other floors in the building. This will have the additional benefit of making an efficient working space for staff.
The project overall aims to ensure that the way in which we carry out our work and the physical environments we occupy enable the effective delivery of our business.
Scope
The proposed project would include:
  • Essential maintenance of the pipework on level 7
  • Converting staff offices on levels 2, 3 and 5 to bookable student rooms to increase the estate for student needs in direct response to feedback.
  • Removal of offices on level 7 to increase the open space potential for staff
  • Development of a range of alternative formal and informal working spaces for staff based in Adsetts
  • Review of storage needs and a review of the book sorter arrangements
The work streams have now each been allocated a work stream lead:
Ann Betterton  – Activity Based Environments (ABE)
Julia King & Claire Ridall – Document Storage (DS)
Adele Evans – E-processes (EP)
Sarah McLennan and Kathryn Conway – Location Free Working (LFW)
Colin Taylor –  IT Solutions (IT)
We are aware that everyone is working to very tight schedules during the month of October, as this is one of our busiest times of year, so to make sure that everyone can attend and discuss all three areas of the workshops, we have booked in several sessions over the whole of the month of October. So if you are really short of time you don’t have to attend the whole block/3 hour sessions, but can just book in for each of the 3 workshops (which are an hour long) on different dates.
Work stream leads for ‘Document Storage’ and ‘IT Solutions’ will be attending meetings with teams in October to discuss their needs.
We will be sending out a briefing paper to read through before the workshops (this won’t be a huge document!) and this will be followed by information with times, dates, locations and how to book onto a workshop, or a section of the workshops.
We will also, at a later date, be arranging tours of recently refurbished staff spaces in other Departments of SHU (Bryan Nicholson building, Charles Street, and others) for you to have an opportunity to sign up to.
