It has proven benefits to all involved but does not come without investment, mainly in the form of time.<\/p>\n<p>Student retention, confidence and sense of community\/belonging are all major issues. Peer-led learning is not a silver-bullet that will solve these problems but is proven to have a positive impact in all these areas as well benefiting all those involved.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will learn about the benefits of training students to support other students, what methods\/models have been used in other areas and what support is available to them to introduce new support in their area.<\/p>\n<p>The session will be a mix of group discussion and presentation<\/p>\n<h3>Who is it for?<\/h3>\n<p>The session is for anyone who supports students (academics, faculty support staff, central student support services) and is interested in providing additional support\/development for students.<\/p>\n<p>Staff can look to introduce peer-led learning approaches in their area, whether this is something long term or just a one-off event\/activity.<\/p>\n<h3>What next?<\/h3>\n<p>Staff can also visit our SharePoint site to read about the work we do and if interested meet 1-1 to discuss ideas and working together &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.shu.ac.uk\/departments\/lsss\/peerlearning\/\">https:\/\/portal.shu.ac.uk\/departments\/lsss\/peerlearning\/<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Your development<\/h3>\n<p>To support your academic professional development, this session is mapped to the UKPSF and the NSS.\u00a0 You may find it useful to record your participation and use it as evidence for your application for recognition (HEA Fellowship or Promotion) or as evidence of &#8216;Remaining in Good Standing&#8217; in your annual appraisal.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"height: 91px\">\n<td style=\"height: 91px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heacademy.ac.uk\/system\/files\/downloads\/UKPSF_2011_English.pdf\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc\">UK Professional Standards Framework<\/span><\/a><\/td>\n<td style=\"height: 91px\"><strong>A4<\/strong> Develop effective learning environments and approaches to student support and guidance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>K3<\/strong> How students learn, both generally and within their subject\/discipline area(s)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 79px\">\n<td style=\"height: 79px\">National Student Survey<\/td>\n<td style=\"height: 79px\"><strong>22<\/strong>.
