Hallam Guild: Call for expressions of interest on best practice during remote working
The Hallam Guild group Research Methods @SHU was set up in 2018 with the aim to bring staff members, who have an interest in research methods together, and to showcase good practice at the University.
In the past year, the group have come across some very interesting examples from colleagues involved in the teaching of research methods across all levels of study at SHU on how they have adjusted their teaching and working practices. Similarly, they have heard from colleagues who continue to develop their research methodologies and approaches despite the restrictions.
The group would like to invite expressions of interest from members of staff for short case studies (700-1000 words) that relate to best practice during remote working and which explore the successes and/or challenges of moving to online working. We intend to gather evidence from a variety of disciplines across SHU to compile a free open access publication to help guide and develop remote working practices in higher education, which we hope would be useful to colleagues at SHU and beyond. Topics could include:
- Teaching of research methods
- Studying research methodologies
- Undertaking research remotely
- Overcoming constraints due to restrictions on movement
- Integrating research discourse within teaching practice
- Dealing with ethical issues in research and teaching
- Dealing with constraints /challenges to engagement from learners
- Positive/negative impact of technology on teaching and research practice
- Hosting academic and/ or public events and conferences remotely
These are just some examples of possible contributions and the group welcomes all other ideas and suggestions.
Please send a brief 50-100 word expression of interest to lada.price@shu.ac.uk, explaining what the topic and the focus of your case study will be by 5 February 2021. The full case studies (due after Easter) will be peer reviewed by the Research Methods @SHU steering committee, which includes representatives from all SHU colleges.
