Thursday 3 December is the annual International Day of People with Disabilities.
This year’s theme ‘Not all Disabilities are Visible’ focuses on spreading awareness and understanding of disabilities that are not immediately apparent, such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, sight or hearing impairments, diabetes, brain injuries, neurological disorders, learning differences and cognitive dysfunctions, among others.
It is thought that up to 70% of all disabilities within the UK are hidden.
In support of the day, the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion site’s Disability pages hosts a range of support, events and resources for individuals and managers who would like to find out more.
The Inclusive Hallam event held on 1 December also supported the theme. If you weren’t able to attend you can watch the recording of this insightful and informative event.
