Hallam Guild: PGR Wellbeing Group Student and Supervisor events

Hallam Guild PGR Wellbeing Group – Events for PGR Students and Supervisors

Monday 7 September  |  1400 – 1600  |  Session for PGR Students

Wednesday 9 September  |  1000 – 1130  |  Session for PGR Supervisors

These events are intended to enable a more detailed discussion around PGR wellbeing and to hear from the perspective of PGR students and supervisors. Several themes will be explored to identify the areas which affect wellbeing in doctoral students. These discussions will aid in the development of the institutional plan for Doctoral wellbeing and highlight areas in which support mechanisms could be developed.  A number of breakout rooms will be available based on the most popular selections (not all of these will run). Potential themes are:

  1.       Caring responsibilities
  2.       Financial problems related to the Doctorate
  3.       COVID related
  4.       Project related
  5.       Supervision
  6.       Workplace environment
  7.       Juggling PT work and Doctorates
  8.       Transition to Doctorates
  9.       Work life balance
  10.       Life after the Doctorate
  11.        Appropriate working relationships

The PGR Wellbeing Hallam Guild group will be organising and facilitating this session. The Group comprises Prof Christine Le Maitre, Dr Alisha Ali, Prof Lisa Hopkins, Dr Kathy Doherty, Caroline Heaton, Jane Wright and Dr Elizabeth Scanlon. This is a continuation of work started with the Students’ Union and builds on recommendations from our 2018 wellbeing survey as well as wellbeing issues highlighted by the Annual Feedback Monitoring Exercise (AFME) and Postgraduate Researcher Experience Survey (PRES).
