Creating a strong profile on LinkedIn is one of the most important things to get right. It’s much more than a traditional CV, as it’s always online, where potential employers are looking to discover the right person for the right opportunity. These tips will help you stand out from the crowd and represent who you are and what you’re interested in.

  • Upload a professional profile picture to get up to 14x more views
  • Your headline is the first thing people will read about you
  • Share your passions and interests in your summary
  • Adding your education will increase the number of opportunities that come your way
  • Your experience is one of the primary things prospective employers will want to see
  • Listing your skills helps bolster your case for why that job should be yours
  • Nothing adds credibility like endorsements
  • Recommendations confirm you can do what you say you can
  • Include examples of work/projects to display what you’ve accomplished

Remember that your LinkedIn profile is public. Consider how others will perceive your profile.

  • Your current job will be your default headline – you may edit this. For students it may be useful to include the name of your degree. For graduates it is vital you include graduate throughout your profile as this will help recruiters find you when they are searching for graduates.
  • Get someone to proof read your profile – it is easy to see others typos but they are not always easy to spot in your own writing.
