Dr Asthana to Develop Waste Management Strategy in India

We are delighted to announce that Dr Abhishek Asthana from the Department of Engineering and Maths, has been appointed as an International Expert on Waste Management to deliver three workshops for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) for developing waste management strategies in three large cities in India.

This follows on from the consultancy project Dr Asthana carried out for the Government of India in 2017, which saw him help to develop the country’s largest Waste to Energy plant, processing a third of New Delhi’s waste.

Dr Asthana’s new project has been awarded funding of approximately £70,000, which has been secured from the FCO’s Prosperity Fund under its India Programme, and is lead by Ernst & Young LLP with whom he worked during the 2017 project.

In order for the workshops to be delivered successfully, Dr Asthana will be travelling to India for a week in May/June, which will be a great opportunity for him to promote the excellent work and courses that we deliver in the Engineering and Maths department, as well as raising Sheffield Hallam’s profile globally.
