The Skills Centre brings together two previously separate teams (Academic Skills and Specialist Study Skills) into one new service.
The Skills Centre offers workshops, small group forums, and drop ins for all students as well as 30 minute one to one tutorials for students who have declared a learning difference like dyslexia.
They have been developing a new referral process for the 1-1 tutorials and will send out details about this in a few weeks.
Sessions are available at Adsetts and Collegiate Libraries and they also offer off campus support including webinars and online resources.
Students can access information about our service on our website (https://blogs.shu.ac.uk/skillscentre/) and book themselves onto sessions via the website or through UniHub.
They have also produced a new induction video about the Skills Centre (https://vimeo.com/279882519/43f1ab9bcd).
The Skills Centre are keen to raise awareness of their service and to develop collaborative working to better understand and meet the needs of students and staff. They are happy to attend a team meeting or induction event to give a short presentation and /or discussion about our service. They are also interested in discussing ideas for ways in which we can work together effectively and in a sustainable way.
